Saadia was distraught, forlorn, and pregnant with her fourth child when her husband abandoned the family. When her children joined Children of the City’s “Future Safe program” she had no family or support system in the community. Her oldest daughter found out about Children of the City when a classmate invited her to a Super Saturday event. Through a casual conversation we found out that Saadia needed basic supplies, such as emergency food, and baby clothes to keep her household running. She immediately signed up for workshops and services and has become a regular at our nutrition workshops and other classes.
Over the years Saadia has assimilated and made new friends in the community. However, as a single mom it is hard to make ends meet. So, she relies on Children of the City for Boxes of Love, holiday food gift packages, and food pantry staples as needed. Her children look forward to our annual our Backpack Event in September. Saadia is always the first in line to thank those that have been there to help. Every month Children of the City’s Program Director meets with Saadia to make sure that her children have the appropriate seasonal clothing, school supplies, and resources they need to stay strong and healthy.
