COVID-19 Relief Project

Since the onset of the Pandemic, Children of the City kicked into gear to adjust to the new climate. We were able to keep many programs up and running virtually, while providing basic needs to families. Strong Minds – Strong Homes (SMASH) is a volunteer-based effort that meets children and families in Sunset Park and connects them with services they might not otherwise seek out on their own. Launched in 2009, our College Bound program focuses on preparing youth for higher education through SAT preparatory courses, mentorship and college readiness workshops. The program objectives are to equip high school students with the skills necessary to achieve high SAT scores and meet college acceptance requirements. Future Safe

Future Safe offers supportive services to supplement our academic programs, including counseling, mentoring, advocacy in social systems (schools and courts), group and individual therapy, family mediation, creative arts, sports, and other recreational activities. These services open the door for COC to serve the entire family and involve parents more meaningfully in their children’s education. Uganda Mission

One precious lesson I have learned over the years, as we diligently care our for own families, and for the unfortunate children in our local communities. There is always room to broaden our reach to others who desperately need our help; children that are at a greater disadvantage than we may ever comprehend.
