2015 Holiday Project

Children of the City celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas in style thanks to the generosity of our many partners.

We were thrilled to have Good Morning America as well as the many volunteers from New York Cares join us in wrapping presents for hundreds of children living below the poverty line.

It takes a network of non-profits, donors and volunteers baring gifts, providing boxes of food and wrapping packages every night for a week to ensure that that all the 500+ families we serve celebrate the holidays and understand the true meaning of the season.

The Boxes of Love and Turkey donations made it possible for our most food insecure families to celebrate with traditional feasts

From mid- November to Christmas Eve the Children of the City headquarters, in Sunset Park, is buzzing with staff and volunteers making their lists and checking them twice to guarantee that every child will receive a gift and every   family will be able to gather around the table for a special holiday meal.

Read some of the responses of our families below.

Yolanda had been struggling to make ends meet. She was concerned about providing for her two sons during the holiday season. Yolanda appreciates the “Box of Love,   with all the fresh produce.”

Wanda never would have celebrated Thanksgiving or Christmas without Children of the City. The mother of five was delighted to receive a Box of Love at Thanksgiving and was overwhelmed by the toys and the additional box at Christmas.

Jaileen and Alvin where not expecting to get any toys at Christmas, so they were elated to find gifts with their names on them under the Children of the City Christmas tree when they picked up their Box of Love. Their mother, Jenny has five kids and limited resources to purchase anything extra. She is grateful for the toys and winter clothes she received for them.

A special thanks to all those that supported the Holiday Projects, including:

St. John’s Bread and Life, Roco Basile at Avo Construction, Rodrigo Mora from Clear Path Brokerage, Luis Lacobucci at Amorosie Landscapers, CRU New York, Suntex Marina Investors, Walter Melvin Architects, R&A Painting, as well as many caring individuals and board members.

Your partnership with Children of City has helped us to create lasting holiday memories for the at risk families in South Brooklyn.
